Self-Lubricating Composite Bearings for High-Load Applications(Oct 12,2006)

Thorofare, N.J., USA – GGB (formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings) offers its high-load, self-lubricating composite bearing materials as MegaLife® XP cylindrical plain bearings for applications requiring high load capacity, resistance to shock, misalignment, contamination and chemicals, plus good friction and wear properties.

GGB’s MegaLife XP bearings feature a sliding layer with a seamless woven liner consisting of PTFE and high-strength fibers in a high-temperature epoxy resin. The liner in turn is bonded to a composite core of continuous wound fiberglass, also encapsulated in a high-temperature epoxy resin.

They are particularly effective in applications where the relative motion is not sufficient to promote lubricant circulation. The inherent lubricity of PTFE provides low friction in dry-running conditions, and the low thermal expansion rate of the composite core assures dimensional stability even at elevated temperatures. In addition, moisture absorption and swelling are negligible.
