Plastics developer and bearing specialist igus now also offers rollers. The "iglidur" rollers can be used in many different applications in mechanical engineering, in the chemical industry or in the field of automation: in transporting and conveying systems all the way up to linkage guides, for instance. Wherever anything is to be moved with resistance to wear using heavy-duty polymers – maintenance-free, self-lubricating, dry-running – or wherever anything is to be transported on guide rollers. Different "iglidur" materials are now available, even with an optional elastomer tyre for enhanced quiet running.Every year, more than 100 new compounds are developed with about 5,000 tests being performed in the igus plastics laboratory in order to provide users with precise forecasts regarding bearing behaviour – and especially the durability of bearings. These tests focus on wear, friction values and necessary driving forces under many different stress and speed collectives including other ambient conditions (temperature, media, chemicals, dirt, impacts, and shock loads).

Plain bearings made of "iglidur" special plastics have been used for many years in different roller applications. Their strengths: maximum service life periods in dry running applications, accompanied by maintenance freedom, insensitivity to dirt, and minimum friction values. Needless to say, igus now also produces its rollers directly from these high-quality materials. Here and there, the material structure of perfectly complemented polymers, reinforcement materials and solid lubricants guarantees optimised property profiles. Preferred materials include, depending on each application, the materials "iglidur J" and "iglidur W300" as well as the high-temperature variant "iglidur H4".
Experiences from plastic energy chains
As an option, igus offers its new solid plastic rollers with or without an elastomer tyre for acoustic and mechanical damping effects. This tyre material was taken from the rollers of the igus roller-type energy chains. In the area of flexible energy supply systems, these rollers have been proving their reliability for years over long distances of travel.
