KTR has recently transferred the benefit of the simple axial plug-in assembly of the well-approved ROTEX GS to the torsionally stiff TOOLFLEX®. TOOLFLEX PLI now combines the benefits of the metal bellow-type coupling like, for example, high torsional stiffness simultaneously with low restoring forces with the benefits of the simple plug-in assembly of ROTEX GS .Considerably reduced assembly times along with more compact, close housings (without mounting hole) are the main benefits resulting from the ability for axial plug-in of the coupling. The many years of operation of ROTEX GS have shown that these factors have reduced the expenses of assembly.
The ability for plug-in ofTOOLFLEX PLI is realized by a taper, self-centering spline. The spline of the clamping hub engages with the hub with internal taper which is combined with the bellows from stainless
steel in a non-positive way, like with the well-approved TOOLFLEX. Based on FEM and tests for optimizing the design of the spline the torque transmission is extremely torsionally stiff and backlash-free in the critical range, too. A light pre-stress of the metal bellow (mounting instruction) ensures a permanently backlash-free torque transmission. The taper hubs made from a highly stiff aluminium alloy are additionally provided with a special coating resistant to wear in order to avoid frictional corrosion and wear caused by micro movements.
To makesure that constant features are realized with higher temperatures, too, the use of nylon segments was done without on purpose. This is covered by the non-positive flanged insertconnection of the metal bellow described above, which in contrast to bonded connections is neither subject to temperature nor ageing.
These characteristics make TOOLFLEX PLI excellently suitable for the connection of servo motors to low-backlash or backlash-free gearboxes. Moreover, there is no objection to the use on backlash-free planetary drives with higher temperatures on the couplings.As a result the new design of this universal and long-lasting metal bellow-type coupling will be exhibited along with other new products at the Motek and the EMO as follows:
