Present Situation of Chinese Special Steel Industry

March 7 2006, the Warning Conference for Special Steel Industry was held in Shanghai. In the course of this conference, 11 attending special steel producers discussed the trend of current special steel market and price competition and reached an consensuses.
1. The current special steel market is running in a more normal manner, demand for steel products become steady and climb slightly.
2. After the serious short term depression in special steel market last year, distributors and end-users of special steel began to know China special steel makers and the market better with reason.
3. After analyzing the data of domestic special steel’s output, comsumption volume, it proved that conflict in domestic steel market has been relaxed. Inventories of steel producers, distributors and end-users have been controled to a rational level.
4. From Feb. to now, steel producers have been beginning to raise their steel price to a normal level from the previous irrational bottem line. The increasing price of raw marterial is another reason that forced all steel producers to raise their price.
Based on the above consensuses, the attenting steel producers agreed to adopt some measures to guarantee the special steel industry’s healthy development.
1. All special steel producers should raise their products price steadily and rationally, after considering the local demand-supply balance.
2. All special steel producers should lower their production cost by adjusting product mix, but only expanding capacity blindly which will only produce another price-increase of raw material.
3. Measures should be taken to expand certain special steel’s export, so as to reach a better supply-demand balance in domestic special steel market.
4. The Special Steel Industrial Association should seek some state assistances from relevant state departments, for example establishing some favourable policies etc.
5. Establishing four coordinating groups to guarantee the favourable market and healthy development of special steel industry. Confirming Xingcheng Special Steel as the leading enterprise in coordinating all bearing steel related matters.
6. Rejecting “Black Case Work” and other illegal competitive means. Insisting on the principle of “Payment in advance”, so as to guarantee the healthy development of China speical steel industry.
