Baosteel Plan to Build Qality Steel Product Base

Recently, Shanghai Baosteel Group has finished the compiling work of their “The 11th Five-Year Plan” of their special steel sector. Target of the plan include: constantly adjusting and upgrading products mix; building a most competitive manufacturing base of special steel product and research & developing center for new marterial, craft and technologies; being a main force in advancing China special steel industry. In 2010, Baosteel's annual output of quality steel products will hit 1.15 million tons and special steel being processed are expected to be 384,000 tons more than current level. In accordance with the idea to build a special steel base, the special steel sector of Baosteel will first devote to the development of their major projects about stainless steel long products, special metallurgy, journal and quick forging, alloy and special bright steel etc. Then, they are expected to gradually take the leadership in producing high-temperature resistant, Titanium and precision alloy and make their upscale bearing and mould steel take a 50% domestic market share. Meanwhile, Baosteel are going to engage in production of sheet and strip products of special steel and alloy, so as to industrialize their precision Titanium products and improve the competitive power of their strategic products. Concerning the sheet and strip products, Baosteel will attach more importance to the following aspects: second stage construction of Special Metallurgy sector; continuous cast and electric furnace metallurgy; strip processing with Steckel mill; cold rolling etc.
