Japan Machinery Orders Fall 16% Japan's machinery order values sharply plummeted by 16% in July from the previous month on a seasonally adjusted basis, the largest drop since the data was first compiled in April 1987. Private-sector machinery orders, excluding volatile ones, fell by a seasonally adjusted 16.7% in the month as companies scaled back investment plans amid concern that economic growth may slow.
