AIRCHINA Repairing Base Develop Bearing Testing Tool
AIRCHINA Engineering & Technology Branch’s Repairing Base in Chengdu developed a testing tool for the rod bearing on a B737-300 craft by their own effort.
Several days ago, the repairing base undertook a job to replace the rod bearing on a B737-300 craft. And the most important step for this job is to test the replacing bearing. Among all test items, the thrust strength test is a seemingly easy but much more difficult one. For the complex structure of the lug where the rod bearing is mounted, it’s hard to dismount the bearing from the lug. At present, no available tools can test the bearing without dismounting it. What’s more, about 3 tons of weight is needed to finish the thrust strength test; also it’s difficult to produce such great weight and keep it in control.
To solve the problems, the repairing base contact AMECO Beijing Company, the only company had experience in doing such testing work. However, the AMECO refused this job for lacking of suitable tools.
Thus, the base decided to develop a testing tool by their own effort. They proposed two plans: mechanical solution or hydraulic solution. After careful analyze, they denied the mechanical one for the higher cost of pressure sensor, the critical component for the tool.
At last, they chose to develop a tool based on hydraulic technology. It comprises a hydraulic meter and a piston. Through the meter, value of pressure can be read. The piston is used to transmit the pressure to the bearing being tested. It’s easy to calculate the thrust strength on the bearing when the pressure is known and the piston is regularly shaped. Using their own tool, they finished the replacing job.
