GGB Building Polymer Bearing Plant in China GGB (formerly Glacier Garlock Bearings, a division of EnPro Industries, Inc., USA; NYSE: NPO) has announced plans to begin manufacturing bearings in China, addressing growing Asian market demand. The company said it has already acquired a 4,000 square meter (43,000 square feet) plant in Suzhou, being built out to, "current Western standards". Production is expected to begin ramping up in late 2007, initially employing 25 workers. Eventually, GGB Suzhou will be capable of manufacturing the company's entire lineup of metal-polymer and filament-wound bearings, serving customers in Asia who are increasingly requiring reliable local and regional sources. Joe Fults, VP of Asia and Business Development, said: "Our new production facility in China will provide a local source of world-class, high-performance bearings both for existing customers that have operations there, as well as the indigenous Chinese market." Although this is GGB's first plant in China, it has had a sales office there for several years. Regionally, GGB recently began building out manufacturing facilities in India. Formerly part of Goodrich, GGB is the world's largest manufacturer of prelubricated and self-lubricating metal-polymer plain bearings. GGB has production facilities in the United States, Germany, France, Slovakia, Brazil and India, along with operating units in two dozen other countries.
