Schaeffler Group Industrial, with its brands INA and FAG, will showcase products and solutions for machines and plants destined for the paper industry at ZELLCHEMING-Expo 2008. This international annual meeting and exhibition is scheduled to take place from 24-26 June 2008 at the Rhein-Main-Hallen expo center in Wiesbaden/Germany. The Smart Performance Program will be in focus on the company’s exhibition booth. With this program, Schaeffler Group Industrial and its subsidiary FAG Industrial Services (F’IS) are offering a comprehensive portfolio of rolling-bearing related products and services. These enable solutions according to the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) concept, which takes the entire lifecycle of machines and installations into consideration and leads to significantly longer service life and reduced downtime.
Further highlights on Booth 933 in Hall 9 will include coatings for rolling bearings used in the pulp & paper industry, hybrid deep groove ball bearings for spreader rolls and self-aligning cylindrical roller bearings for the dryer section of paper machines. Together with its service subsidiary F’IS, Schaeffler Group Industrial will be displaying solutions for condition-based maintenance using the FAG VibroCheck (condition monitoring) as well as the FAG Detector III which enables the offline monitoring of rolling bearings and balancing of rotating parts. Furthermore, it will be presenting possibilities for rolling bearing reconditioning.
Smooth compensation of axial expansion
Self-aligning cylindrical roller bearings (SACR) are used in dryer rolls/M.G. cylinders as well as in the guide rolls of paper machines. Major axial expansion is smoothly compensated for within the bearing, between the rollers and the inner ring raceway. A spherical outer ring and a matching self-aligning plain bearing outer ring allow this compensation of misalignment. Lubrication is provided directly into the bearing via a central lubricating groove and lubricating holes on the outer ring, which results in a symmetrical temperature distribution in the bearing. Other bearing types, such as spherical roller bearings, can be replaced by these self-aligning cylindrical roller bearings without major modifications of the housing design. In combination with plummer block housings that are rigidly bolted to the machine frame, self-aligning cylindrical roller bearings display a favorable vibration behavior and thus offer a crucial prerequisite for higher speeds.
Online monitoring
F’IS will present its FAG VibroCheck online monitoring system, which identifies imbalances, misalignment, rolling bearing damage and gearing problems at an early stage and thus helps to prevent unplanned shutdowns of machines and plants. The system can handle up to 2,048 measurement points and is suitable for monitoring complex plants such as paper machines, rolling mills, cement factories or power stations. Its remote access feature enables the intervention of external condition monitoring experts. A user-friendly, customized visualization ensures that parameters and alarms can immediately be assigned to the relevant components. In the event of alarm activation, repairs can thus be planned well ahead and carried out quickly. The results are lower maintenance costs and higher machine availability.
Reconditioning of rolling bearings
Another important theme is the reconditioning of rolling bearings used in the paper industry. Compared with new bearings, the key advantage of reconditioning is fast bearing availability which contributes to the reduction of downtime. Moreover, the sophisticated recycling of expensive raw materials has a positive effect on the environmental performance evaluation and energy balance.
