Brammer, the UK’s leading supplier of maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) products and services, has shown its commitment to the safety of both its own and customers’ employees, by joining the leading edge SAFEcontractor scheme. SAFEcontractor recognises very high standards of health and safety practice among UK practitioners in a wide range of sectors. Through the scheme, businesses undergo a rigorous vetting process, which examines health and safety procedures and their track record in safe working practice. Those companies which meet the required standard are included on a database, accessible to registered users only, at www.safecontractor.com. Employer organisations which sign up to the scheme can access the database, which enables them to vet potential contractors before they even set foot on site. More than 120 major nationwide businesses have already signed up to use the scheme to date. Brammer operates from 92 locations across the UK, with more than 800 staff, serving customers in all industrial sectors, from smaller SME manufacturers to major pan-European organisations. Ian Ritchie, Managing Director of Brammer, commented: “An area of increasingly stringent legislation, health and safety is of growing importance to UK industry and the guarantee of safe working practices is more and more of a factor in supplier ion. “Joining the SAFEcontractor scheme will enable us to offer the assurances required in this area by potential new customers, as well as demonstrating to our existing customers our commitment to the highest possible standards of health and safety in all aspects of our work.” Darran Hughes, Operations Director of SAFEcontractor, added: “Major organisations can no longer run the risk of employing contractors who are not able to prove that they have sound health and safety policies. “More companies need to understand the importance of adopting good risk management in the way that Brammer has done. The firm’s high standard has set an example which hopefully will be followed by other companies within the sector.”
