A Steady Rise of China Bearing Steel Market in May 2011

Summary: Look back to the bearing steel market in April, the price of GCr15 was undergoing minor fluctuations while the price in the majority of regions still kept stable. Up to the end of April, the national average price of GCr15 continuous casting non-annealed steel of 50mm was 6,404 yuan/ton; the national average price of GCr15 die-casting annealed steel of 100mm was 7,964 yuan/ton. The overall steel market has improved in April and the demand also has been released, in the meanwhile, bearing steel manufacturers began to rose their price ranging about 100 yuan/ton. Furthermore, taking into account the demand is still high in May, the price of bearing steel may in a higher level.
一、The domestic production situation of bearing steel
The domestic production capability of bearing steel crude steel was about 832,000 tons from January to March in 2011, increased 16.8% compared with the same period of last year; the output of bearing steel was 798,000 tons, rose 16.4%. (refer to: picture 1)

From Table 1 & Table 2, we can saw that the first three for bearing steel output from January to March in 2011 were still Zhongxin Special Steel (Xinye Steel and Xingcheng Speical Steel ), Dongbei Speical Steel and Nanjing Steel, with the same rank compared with the last period.
二、Bearing Steel Market Performance in April
The operation and features of bearing steel in April 2011 was mainly delivered in the following aspects:
(一) The export of bearing steel in March was basically stable
According to the statistics by ten domestic major bearing steel manufacturers, the total export for bearing steel in this March was 12,189 tons, dropped 1.42% compared with the same period of last year. And the largest export enterprise in this month was still Xingcheng Special Steel with the export volume of 11,860 tons, next Xinye Steel, then Dongbei Special Steel with the export volume of 4,305 tons & 4,223 tons respectively.

(二) The price of bearing steel showed little change in April
The price of bearing steel basically kept stable in April. Compared with the more sensitive East China, the price was weak earlier of this month, then slightly rose. The specific condition of bearing steel in the domestic various regions in this month were as follows:
Hangzhou Market: the price in this region was weak then strong in April with the common market deal. Up to the end of April, the average transaction price of small size GCr 15 (continuous casting non-annealed steel) was between 6,300 yuan/ton and 6,400 yuan/ton, and the GCr15 die-casting annealed steel was about 7,800 yuan/ton.
Luoyang Market: the price in this region was basically stable with the common market deal. Up to the end of April, the average transaction price of small size GCr 15 (continuous casting non-annealed steel) was between 6,250 yuan/ton and 6,350 yuan/ton, and the GCr15 die-casting annealed steel was about 7,800 yuan/ton.
Xi'an Market: the price in this region was basically stable with the common market deal. Up to the end of April, the average transaction price of small size GCr 15 (continuous casting non-annealed steel) was about 6,700 yuan/ton, and the GCr15 die-casting annealed steel was about 8,100 yuan/ton.

According to the statistics from Mysteeel.com: up to the end of April, the national average price of GCr15 continuous casting non-annealed steel of 50mm was 6,404 yuan/ton; the national average price of GCr15 die-casting annealed steel of 100mm was 7,964 yuan/ton.

三、The price of bearing steel moderately rose in May
1.In the aspect of raw material, the trend is inconsistent. For example, the price of chromium was still low in April while the price of ore, pig iron and scrap steel was steadily with slight rosing.

2. As for steel plant and market, most of merchants increased their bearing steel price by 100 yuan/ton in April, and the orders in steel plant were quite well. On the other hand, the overall market resources was low, meanwhile the inventory of some merchants was generally not high. The overall market price was relatively strong driven by the price in steel plant.
3. For downstream users, the production for end-users was good, in the meanwhile, the stocking situation of bearing steel was normal with more than one months' inventory could be available.
In summary, the current market sentiment is more optimistic, bearing steel sells well. It is still the demand peak season in May, thus the bearing steel price may appropriately rose effected by the price in steel plant.
