Schaeffler Wheel Hub Drive Wins Bavarian State Award for Electric Mobility

(October 19, 2011) Schaeffler has been presented with the Bavarian State Award for Electric Mobility in the category drive technology, electrical systems and test systems during the leading trade show, eCarTec. This highly prestigious award emphasizes the company’s innovation expertise. The award-winning eWheelDrive is a wheel hub drive that enables the integration of forward-looking vehicle architecture and interior concepts, particularly in electric city vehicles. A highly-respected jury judged around 100 submissions according to their scientific and technical performance, marketing management, safety, innovation, engineering, feasibility, stage of development and sustainability. Further advantages of the eWheelDrive are its braking assistance function for increasing driving safety and more rapid response.” Prof. Dr.-Ing. Peter Gutzmer, Member of the Executive Board and CTO at Schaeffler, continues: “The eCarTec Award recognizes our contribution to efficient future mobility. The wheel hub drive has a highly-integrated design with the drive motor, power electronics, liquid cooling, friction brake and control system installed in the wheel. This compact system can be fitted into a standard wheel rim. Schaeffler eWheelDrive The eCarTec trade show for electric mobility is taking place between October 18 and 20 October in Munich, Germany. Over 500 exhibitors from 24 countries are presenting innovations relating to electric mobility on more than 20,000 m² of floor space at the show. During eCarTec, Schaeffler will be showing the eSolutions concept car at Booth 134 in Hall A5, which was presented for the first time at the IAA and contains a selection of Schaeffler products for use in hybrid and electric vehicles.
