(October 19, 2011) SKF South Africa, a division of the Swedish multinational SKF group, has been delivering a full range of solutions and services around its five core technologies - Bearings and Units, Seals, Mechatronics, Services, and Lubrication Systems, to local industry for decades. Part of the SKF Solutions Factory Africa in Witfield, SKF's Lubrication Application Centre (LAC), is equipped to offer effective, tailor-made lubrication systems for essential moving surfaces in industrial and machinery applications - from conveyors, chains, shafts and cables to steering axles, pivot arms and lift points. Hydraulic hammers require a different lubricant to other lubrication points on an excavator, and are often disconnected for use on other machines. Even though hydraulic hammers are mainly used for 'rough' work, they are in fact sensitive devices that must be handled very carefully when lubricated. When a hydraulic hammer fails due to inadequate or insufficient lubrication, the outcome is, in most instances, very costly as failures frequently take place during a planned or scheduled operation and failures cause interruptions at critical times. Automatic lubrication systems on hydraulic hammers are of vital importance to meet the exact standards and narrow time windows typically encountered in demolition work. SKF has developed a new hydraulic lubrication pump, HS04, specifically for hydraulic hammers. The HS04 hydraulically operated pump is robust enough for even the most aggressive environments, quick and simple to maintain and substantially reduce operating costs. The pump can be fitted to provide effective lubrication even if the hammer is uncoupled and moved from one machine to another. The HS04 automatically dispenses the optimum amount of lubricant to the hammer as it is required. The delivery rate can be adjusted by using a flow restrictor on the unit to meet the requirements of any application. The pump also features a manual lubricating nipple for emergency lubrication in the event of a hydraulic circuit failure. In addition, the SKF HS04 lubrication pump for hydraulic hammers allows the use of a fit-for-purpose lubricant to further improve machinery performance and uptime. SKF has also developed a paste that can absorb high pressures, offers good corrosion protection and reduces wear, enabling hydraulic hammers to deliver particularly long, low maintenance operating lives.
