Bearing Steel Market will Slightly Bullish in April

Overview
Looking back of the domestic bearing steel market in March, the price of GCr15Φ50mm continuous casting non-annealed steel was slightly adjusted, and the overall market demand was improved. Up to the end of March, the average price of GCr15Φ50mm continuous casting non-annealed steel around China was 5,700 yuan/ton, 4 yuan/ton increased compared with the price at the end of previous month; the average price of GCr15Φ100mm continuous casting annealed steel was 8093 yuan/ton (some modifications applied to the statistical method). The price trend in the bearing steel were basically stable, and the traders now show better attitude at the market price with more confidence in the market outlook. This is because, for one hand, many steel mills have greatly increased their prices, for another, the overall steel market is gradually getting warm due to the price rise of construction materials such as deformed steel bars and high speed rods, which will have a greater power to promote the rise of prices in bearing steel market. The prices in the bearing steel market is expected to rise next month, but the rising speed will not be fast due to the pressure of macroeconomy.
I. Domestic Production Situation of Bearing Steel
The bearing steel production from January to February in 2012 has fallen significantly compared with the same period in last year. From January to February in 2012, the domestic output of crude steel by major quality special steel producers was about 493,000 tons, 16.7% declined compared with the same period in last year; the output of bearing steel by major quality special steel producers was 452,000 tons, 18.5% declined compared with the same period in last year.

Seen from Table 1, we can know that the top three for bearing steel output from January to March in 2012 were still Zhongxin Special Steel (Xinye Steel and Xingcheng Special Steel), Dongbei Speical Steel and Juneng Steel, but the ranking in other steel mills experienced relatively large changes, with some steel mills arranging no production plan in the two months at all. (for Sha Steel, only the yield of Huai Steel counted)
II. Performance of Domestic Bearing Steel Market in March:
(i) The export volume of bearing steel from January to March in 2012 drastically declined
According to the statistical data released by the ten major domestic bearing steel manufacturers, the export volume of bearing steel in January was 6,345 tons, and the same in February was 5,509 tons, showing a year on year decline of 43% and 55% respectively.

(ii) The bearing steel was basically stable in March
The prices in the bearing steel market were basically stable in March. The performance of transactions was improved as a whole, the mentality of market traders became better, and the spot volume was significantly reduced affected by the reduced production of steel mills, resulting in the great ease of market inventory. The concrete conditions of bearing steel in various regions of China in March are as follows:
Bearing steel prices in Hangzhou market slighly increased and the performance of transactions was improved. Up to the end of March,the average knock-down price of standard GCr15 continuous casting non-annealed steel was 5,350 to 5,450 yuan/ton, and the average knock-down price of GCr15 die-casting annealed steel was around 7,700 yuan/ton.
Bearing steel prices in Luoyang market kept stable and the deal was light. Up to the end of March, the average knock-down price of standard GCr15 continuous casting non-annealed steel was 5,600 to 5,750 yuan/ton, and the average knock-down price of GCr15 die-casting annealed steel was 7,600 to 7,700 yuan/ton.
Bearing steel prices in Xi'an market were temporarily stable and the deal was commom. Up to the end of March, the spot goods of standard GCr15 continuous casting non-annealed steel was less, and the average knock-down price of GCr15 die-casting annealed steel was 7,700 to 7,800 yuan/ton.

According to the statistics from Mysteeel.com: up to the end of December, 2011, the national average price of GCr15 Φ50mm continuous casting non-annealed steel was 5,700 yuan/ton; the national average price of GCr15 Φ100mm die-casting annealed steel was 8,093 yuan/ton. Seen from Table 2 that the bearing steel prices in East China market slightly rose in March, and the market was getting warmer as a whole. The demand obtained a certain release, and the traders showed more positive market mentality and hold full confidence in the market outlook though the price was not greatly improved.
III. Domestic Bearing Steel Market will Slightly Increase:
1. Raw materials
The high-chrome prices greatly dropped in April, and the quoted price dropped to 7850 yuan/ton, with a decrease of 250 yuan/ton compared with last month, thus resulting in a certain relaxation of the cost of production of bearing steel.

2. Steel Mills
The output of steel mills from January to February experienced relatively great drop, with the rate reaching double figure, but many steel mills made large adjustments to the prices, which evoked the feeling of gaining momentum. Xinye raised the price by 100 yuan/ton, Xingcheng 100 yuan/ton, Xining 50 yuan/ton, Dalian 100 yuan/ton, and Beiman 100 yuan/ton.
3. Steel Market
Through the market consolidation in March, the inventory level of traders experienced a certain decline, and they are looking forward a satisfactory market in April as the market mentality gets warm. This month, the overall steel market environment has greatly improved, although the market price of bearing steel has not changed much, the role of the mentality is still very obvious in this market economy environment. It is expected that the prices in the bearing market will rise slightly next month, the arrived amount in the market will gradually increase, and the shipments will also expericence some rise.
