Schaeffler's new version of a classic design: BB66 bottom bracket also for heavy-duty and delivery bicycles
Schaeffler has developed a new version of a classic design with the second-generation FAG BB66 bottom bracket. This bottom bracket offers smooth running and a long service life even under the most demanding conditions thanks to its high-precision components that can handle heavy loads. It is the only bottom bracket to have so far received DINplus certification in Germany. The BB66 FAG bottom bracket is particularly suitable for heavy-duty and delivery bicycles and has, for example, been the preferred bottom bracket in the bicycles of Deutsche Post for many decades.
Bottom bracket for very high loads
The bottom bracket is the central bearing position in a bicycle and this is precisely where the new FAG bottom bracket with the designation BB66 comes in: It is characterized by excellent smooth running in particular. This is facilitated by FAG deep groove ball bearings with reduced friction characteristics, which are equipped with lip seals on both sides. Seals play a decisive role in terms of reliability and smooth running in dusty and wet conditions. The ball bearings are also lubricated for life. This also ensures trouble-free operation during bad weather and maximum reliability and freedom from maintenance for the entire service life. The BB66 bottom bracket achieves a long service life under the most demanding conditions thanks to the highest bearing load ratings.
The special Corrotect® coating of the shaft, an extremely thin, electroplated, zinc-iron coating free from Cr(VI) ensures optimum corrosion protection. Conventional bottom brackets are only zinc electroplated against rust and only offer limited protection.
The glass fiber reinforced plastic housing with threaded flanges compensates small frame tolerances and allows easier mounting. The dual fix design makes for easy fitting with existing tools. It has a housing profile that is suitable for supporting FAG tools (outside) and Shimano tools (inside). The considerably reduced diameter through the center of the bearing unit creates sufficient space for passing through cables for lights or other connectors.
