United Utilities Oldham waste water plant turns to Revolvo SRB bearings
United Utilities is reporting that split roller bearings are now providing heavy-duty support for the crankshaft of a large sludge pump at its Oldham waste water treatment plant, following operational problems that resulted in damage to the original equipment.
Revolvo SRB bearings were suggested by Eriks Electro Mechanical Services, which was commissioned to refurbish and repair the sludge pump, including straightening the crankshaft, replacing bearings and re-aligning the drive under a contract worth more than £200,000.
Revolvo manufactured seven heavy-duty 150mm SRB split roller bearings, along with housings and pedestals for the crankshaft support, and also refurbished the pump connecting rod end housings.
This is the latest of several contracts involving Revolvo bearings for United Utilities, with recent projects including one to replace rotary aerator support bearings at the firm's Widnes waste water treatment plant.
The firm's sealed SRB split roller bearings are well matched to such plant operations since they are designed to operate fully submerged in sludge, needing only routine re-greasing.
For applications with very long shafts, the SRB split-to-the shaft bearing design also saves thousands of pounds in installation and maintenance costs, since they can be easily removed and replaced at any point along the shaft without dismantling ancillary equipment.
