Leading-Edge Wireless Sensor Platform Introduced at MD&M West
Parker Hannifin Corporation, the global leader in motion and control technologies, introduces a low energy wireless sensor platform for monitoring pressure, temperature, and humidity in liquid and gas applications. Parker’s SensoNODE Low Energy Wireless Monitoring Sensors and SensoNODE mobile iOS application are the first in a family of products the company is launching in 2014. The SensoNODE family puts data in the palms of users’ hands, helping to predict problems and prevent downtime in a variety of equipment and facility applications, thus saving time and money on costly labor or repairs.
Parker will be demonstrating the new low energy wireless sensor platform and its uses in the medical device market in Booth #2811 at MD&M West, February 11-13, 2014, at the Anaheim Convention Center in Anaheim, California.
Developed with the mobile worker in mind, Parker’s wireless sensors eliminate the constraints of traditional wired sensors in everyday applications. Small in size and easily installed, the wireless sensors offer a sealed sensor housing to facilitate sensor location in challenging environments where a wired sensor platform is impractical or impossible. There are three individual sensor options that can monitor pressure, temperature, and humidity in a wide range of liquid and gas applications.
The sensors can be attached to the equipment being monitored via either standard pipe thread (NPT) ports or through the use of a quick connect coupling. They operate on a common coin cell battery for extended periods of time.
Designed in concert with the sensor, the mobile app – called “SensoNODE” – will be available as a free download from the Apple® App Store. With a maximum range of up to 150 feet from the sensors, the easy-to-use mobile app connects an iOS device (iPhone®, iPad®, or iPod touch®) wirelessly to one or more sensors using auto recognition. Live data can be displayed, and the app’s available diagnostic tools allow for the creation and display of trending graphs or user-defined alert notifications. Up to five discrete sensor inputs can be monitored at a glance on the mobile device.
SensoNODE wireless sensors are compatible with a wide range of liquid and gas applications in the areas of medical devices, laboratory and analytical equipment, food and beverage, hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and industrial manufacturing processes.
According to Parker Quick Coupling Division (QCD) Business Unit Manager Mario Calvo, Parker’s wireless monitoring sensors reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to innovation. “Through Parker’s investment in R&D, we discovered new methods of creating very low power sensing elements. This enables cost-effective wireless sensing solutions that are unique in the marketplace today,” Calvo said. “Moreover, they allow users to gather data at points in their devices, equipment, and facilities that were previously cost prohibitive, labor intensive, or not feasible given the existing sensor technology base.”
The Parker Quick Coupling Division sells the SensoNODE Low Energy Wireless Monitoring Sensors. For more information on this product or to download a product bulletin, please visit http://solutions.parker.com/wirelessmonitoring or contact the Parker Quick Coupling Division at 763-544-7781.
