SKF will reveal its new cryogenic bearing solution for LNG pumps to the marine industry for the first time at Asia Pacific Maritime 2014, March 19th to 21st, Singapore Gothenburg, Sweden, 11 March 2014: SKF will be demonstrating a range of solutions that increase marine efficiency and profitability at Asia Pacific Maritime 2014, which takes place between March 19th and 21st at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. Among the exhibits on show will be the new SKF cryogenic bearing solution for LNG pumps, which meets the needs of the global LNG carrier fleet by providing increased flexibility, availability and reliability in the handling of valuable cargo. The bearings, which can be specified with a new pump or applied as an upgrade when replacing existing cryogenic bearings, use a specially heat-treated variant of the SKF high-nitrogen, super-tough stainless steel to enhance cryogenic temperature stability, hardness and fatigue resistance. The rolling elements are made of silicon nitride bearing-grade ceramic and the bearings are lubricated by the liquefied gas itself. Other solutions on show include the OKCX shaft coupling from SKF that features an inner sleeve coated with carbides utilising advanced plasma technology. It is tailor-made for each individual customer’s requirements with a coating that significantly increases friction and gives the OKCX coupling a number of advantages. Most notably, the torque capacity of OKCX is much higher than solutions that do not use the high friction coating. SKF will also be showcasing its online and fixed marine condition monitoring systems, which optimize the safety and reliability of a ship’s critical machinery by automatically collecting data on a continual basis. Developed in line with classification agency requirements, these systems enables analysis or interpretation of data at any time, either on the ship or by remote diagnosis via the ship’s communication system. Also on display, is the SKF Blohm + Voss Industries SC3 ring – the new generation lip sealing ring for SIMPLEX-COMPACT stern tube seals, which is better able to handle differences in pressure. The SC3 has been given a shorter lip, which has allowed the pressure-loaded area to be reduced, while a new self-aligning annular spring makes the ring better able to adjust to the actual pressure. Another innovation on the SKF stand will be automatic lubrication solutions for jacking systems designed to work under extreme environmental conditions, bringing increased safety and reliability to offshore rigs. SKFs marine portfolio has expanded significantly over the last two years and will be a key focus of interest at Asia Pacific Maritime 2014. SKFs solutions will be seen by over 12,000 visitors from over 60 countries, underlining SKFs growing status as a major marine supplier / partner.
