China Customer Seminar for a New Era in Machining

TaeguTec headquarters in South Korea welcomed almost 50 industry leaders from China for the company’s Spring Seminar Series.
For two days, Chinese industry leaders underwent extensive training and gathered a slew of information regarding TaeguTec cutting tools that can optimize their operations while cutting cost and increase productivity.
“China is changing,” said Li, who only wanted to be identified by his surname. “There is a growing demand for cutting tools with more advanced metal-cutting capabilities.
“Chinese companies are not only making cheap products anymore, now we are making more advanced products that need to be machined with advanced tools. A good example of this is seen by the entry of big companies into China now,” Li added.
According to Freedonia, an international business research company, Chinese demand for metal forming equipment is predicted to advance by almost 10 percent annually through 2017, following the increased production anticipated in the country’s motor vehicle, shipbuilding, aerospace, and power transmission and distribution markets.
Metal cutting tools will continue to be the largest product segment through 2017. This will be the result of “relatively wider range of applications in durable goods production and a comparatively greater variety of metal cutting product types,” according to the Freedonia study.
Li, who runs an auto parts company outside of Beijing, added that this change in manufacturing comes with a greater sense of responsibility for their finished products.
“Western companies come to China to cut on their labor cost, but they also want either equal or better built products. We can't continue to make lower quality products and continue to keep our customers. If we do, they will just move elsewhere like India or Thailand,” Li said.
The seminars run by TaeguTec help explain in great detail the characteristics of the tools used in the Chinese market. From milling to cutting to drilling, owners, distributors and decision markets from Chinese companies who attended the seminar were curious about the limitations of TaeguTec tools.
To prove that TaeguTec produces products they can trust, attendees were treated to first-hand machining demonstrations on various materials from carbon steel to composite materials in which tools like DrillRush, RhinoRush, QuadRush and Chase2Feed (just to name a few) where brought to their apex of production capabilities and then pushed a little further.
“I have been using the MillRush for my milling operations and never thought about some of the other TaeguTec tools for other operations,” said Weng, who wished to be identified only by his surname.
“Now, after seeing these tests and speaking with the product managers, I am ready to conduct further tests with the DrillRush at my factory. We produce many parts for the automotive sector and we are expecting a big increase of operations next year, we can’t afford to be late and can’t afford to make inferior parts; so from what I saw today, the DrillRush looks promising for me,” Weng added.
