Winergy will present its latest developments in the journal bearing technology at WindEnergy Hamburg from 23 to 26 September 2014. Highlight will be a 3 MW HybridDrive with journal bearings. In addition the gearbox manufacturer will exhibit a journal bearing to show its mode of operation. Winergy journal bearing planet paint In comparison to common roller bearings, journal bearings experience little wear and generate less noise and vibrations. Furthermore, journal bearings work at higher efficiency and lower costs. Since March 2013 a 2 MW gearbox prototype with journal bearings has been in operation in a Vestas V90 turbine in Sweden. Two further 2 MW prototypes for another customer are expected to be delivered by October 2014. At the Winergy booth at the WindEnergy in Hamburg, the leading international fair for the wind industry, visitors can catch up with the advantages of the journal bearing technology which is available for all gearboxes and HybridDrives manufactured by Winergy. In contrast to common roller bearings, journal bearings have nearly no wear, and noise and vibrations are also lower. Furthermore journal bearings deliver a higher efficiency at lower costs. The mode of operation can be seen at an exhibit on the Winergy booth. By introducing this journal bearing technology, the company sets another milestone for the wind turbine drivetrains and continues the story of its HybridDrive. “We now added the advantages of journal-bearing technology which were successfully proven in extensive tests to the advantages of our HybridDrive. We thereby are able to further increase the reliability and thus the availability of our drives,” says Stefan Tenbrock, CEO of Winergy. At WindEnergy Hamburg, Winergy will exhibit a 3 MW HybridDrive prototype with journal bearings. It will be presented in a partly cut-away-version that allows a look inside. In the HybridDrive, the planetary wheels come with journal bearings along with the generator. Winergy’s HybridDrive combines a two-stage-planetary gearbox and a permanent-magnet-generator. This results in a length reduction of 35 to 50% for the complete drive train. Both individual components, i.e. gearbox and generator, have an efficiency of 98% each which are the basis for the system efficiency of more than 96.5%. 2014 is also the year Winergy exceeded the 100 GW mark. The wind gearbox manufacturer is the first company in the wind industry that accomplished the delivery of 100 GW or 100,000 MW of wind gearbox capacity in June 2014. So the proportion of wind turbines around the world using Winergy gearboxes is just under 30%.
