CANADA: Hydro-Quebec has selected three projects totalling 446.4MW in its latest request for wind energy proposals, with the winning bidders poised to bring some new turbine suppliers to the province. EDF EN Canada, already a major player in the province's wind sector, with more that 1GW of capacity online or under construction, plans to use Vestas turbines in its 224.4MW Parc Éolien Nicolas-Riou. Invenergy Wind Canada has tapped GE as turbine supplier for its 74.8MW Roncevaux project. Addditionally, a partnership between Renewable Energy Systems Canada and Pattern Renewable Holdings Canada will install Siemens turbines at their 147.2MW Parc Eolien Mont Sainte-Marguerite. Quebec's 60% local content requirement means developers had to team up with turbine makers willing to set up manufacturing facilities in the province or use suppliers already in place. Turbine manufacturers Senvion and Enercon, which won all the supply contracts in Quebec's last wind energy call in 2008, were shut out this time around. GE was selected as supplier in the province's first RFP in 2004.
