TI Automotive, one of the biggest names in British car parts manufacturing, is being stalked by US buyout firm Bain Capital. A deal for the Oxford-based company could be worth more than £1.2billion. TI has about 23,000 workers spread around the world and supplies all the major car makers, including Audi, Bentley, Ford, Honda and Jaguar Land Rover. Founded in 1919 in Birmingham as Tube Investments, it later merged with engineering group Smiths before being spun-off in 2001. It is now controlled by private equity house Oaktree Capital.
