This week, the bearing steel prices in domestic market were weak on a stable basis. Up to Friday, the average price of continuous casting non-annealed steel nationwide was 4232 yuan/ton, the average price of die-casting annealed steel is 5808 yuan/ton, and the prevailing quotations for continuous casting non-annealed steel from the second ranking steel plants in South China remains in the range of 3900 to 4100 yuan/ton.
[Raw materials]
On Jan 9th, the port spot prices of imported ores remained steady. The average price of PB fines was 505-515 yuan, flat; PB ores 700-705 yuan, flat; Yandicoogina fines 430-450 yuan, flat; super special fines 410-420 yuan, flat; 500-515 Brazil coarse particle ores 480, flat.
On Jan 9th, the prices of iron powder in Tangshan were steady. 66% iron powder Qian'an was 485 yuan; 60% iron powder in Zunhua was 420 yuan, 66% iron powder was 480 yuan; 66% iron powder in Qianxi was 475 yuan.
2. Coking coal
Coking Coal Morning Paper on Jan 9th: Domestic coking coal market ran steadily as a whole yesterday, well traded. There was a slight weakening trend in the market, and local prices were likely to fall.
3. Steel billet
On Jan 9th, the price ex-factory of common square billet from major steel mills was 2110 yuan (cash and tax inclusive).
On Jan 9th, the direct sending price of billet steel was 2145-2150 yuan in Tangshan; some steel mills provided quoted price at 2180 yuan, no deals made; finished steel was not traded well; the price of presintered compact fell by 10 yuan.
[Review of Major Markets]
This month, the price of bearing steel continued to dip, mainly down by 50 yuan/ton. Up to now, the price of low-end continuous non-annealed casting material is around 3200 yuan/ton (accepted); mid-range materials 3300 yuan/ton (accepted); high-end materials 4400 yuan/ton (accepted); forgings 5800 yuan/ton (accepted). The profits of most bearing steel manufacturers are lagging now. In contrast, the profit margins of coiled reinforced bar, carbon steel and other materials were acceptable. So some steel mills made adjustment to product structures and reduced the production of bearing steel. The prices of raw materials represented by iron ores are expected to fall further in January. Meanwhile, steel mills and traders end funds are now under the pressure of funds returning at the end of the lunar year, so they prefer to low-cost shipping. Overall, domestic bearing steel market prices in January will continue dropping slightly, in the range of 50-80 yuan/ton.
[Forecast for the next week]
No significant improvement is expected to occur in the short term, and the bearing steel market will remain in downturn next week.
