Weekly Review of Bearing Steel Market in China (Feb 7th to 12th, 2015)

This week, the domestic bearing steel market ran in shocks. Up to Friday, the average price of continuous casting non-annealed steel nationwide was 4145 yuan/ton, the average price of die-casting annealed steel is 5194 yuan/ton, and the prevailing quotations for continuous casting non-annealed steel from the second ranking steel plants in South China remains in the range of 3900 to 4100 yuan/ton.
[Raw Materials Markets]
1. Ores
On Feb 12th, imported ores market was temporally stable. The average price of PB fines was 460-465 yuan, flat; PB ores 650-660 yuan, flat; Yandicoogina fines 405-410 yuan, flat; super special fines 370-390 yuan, flat; 62.5% Brazil coarse particle ores 465-470, flat.
On Feb 12th, the prices of iron powder in Tangshan were steady. 66% iron powder Qian'an was 495 yuan; 66% iron powder in Zunhua was 490 yuan, 60% iron powder was 420 yuan; 66% iron powder in Qianxi was 490 yuan.
2. Coking coal
Yesterday, domestic coking coal market performed stably, and market transactions in all areas were ordinary. Due to the impact of the downward trend prevailing in downstream coke market, the coking coal market is expected to stay weak recently.
3. Steel billet
On Feb 12th, the direct sending price of billet steel was 2025-2040 yuan in Tangshan; the price of finished steel was stable, and the trading volume was ordinary; the price of pre-cast steel may remained stable.
On Feb 12th, the ex-factory price of common square billet from major steel mills was fixed at 1990 yuan (cash and tax inclusive) till the seventh day of the Spring Festival.
[Major Markets]
[East China Region] This week, the bearing steel price in East China market remained stable in the weak trend, and as Chinese New Year was approaching, downstream end users mainly closed businesses, so there were less market purchases. Up to this weekend, the quotations in Hangzhou market are as follows: Beiman Steel GCr15Φ30-70 non-annealed steel was 3,800 yuan/ton; Nanjing Steel GCr15Φ20-0 continuous casting non-annealed steel was 3,700 yuan/ton; Xingcheng Steel GCr15Φ50 non-annealed steel was 4,500 yuan/ton, less stock. This week, the bearing steel price in Wuxi market was basically stable, and the turnover was ordinary. Up to this weekend, the quotations in Wuxi market are as follows: Xingcheng Steel GCr15Φ30-75 hot-rolled non-annealed steel was 4,500 yuan/ton; Xinyegang Steel GCr15Φ30-50 continuous casting annealed steel was 3,900 yuan/ton; Beiman Steel GCr15Φ40-75 heat-treated annealed steel was 4,600 yuan/ton; Wuxi Huarun Steel GCr15Φ50-80 had no accurate quote, less stock; Nanjing Steel GCr15Φ50 hot-rolled non-annealed steel was around 3,750 yuan/ton. As the end of 2014 lunar year approaches, steel mills all performed poorly in shipments.
[North China Region]This week, Shenyang market remained weak, thinly traded. As Chinese New Year was approaching, downstream end users mainly closed businesses, so there were less market purchases. Up to this weekend, Benxi Steel Φ90-120 continuous casting steel was 4,050 yuan/ton; Benxi Steel GCr15Φ160-180 die-casting annealed steel was 5,400 yuan/ton. This week, the bearing steel price in Harbin market was flat, and the deal was ordinary. Benxi Steel GCr15Φ20-75 heat-treated annealed steel was 4,200 yuan/ton, out of stock; Dongbei Special Steel GCr15Φ50 heat-treated annealed steel was out of stock; Dongbei Special Steel GCr15Φ40-75 continuous casting non-annealed steel was 3,900 yuan/ton. The rain and snow started in many parts of Northern China, and downstream enterprises mainly closed business, resulting linear decrease in bearing orders this week. Large steel mills performed poorly in shipments, and the market will stay weak on a stable basis in the short term.
[Forecast for the next week]
Based on the current market situation, the downstream demand remains a major factor reducing prices in the short term, which is difficult to improve. Market price will continues the consolidation state at the bottom during the Spring Festival, and after that there may be a short-term self pull up.
