The Unit 3 of the Bac-Man Geo-thermal Power Plant Complex of Bac-Man Geothermal Inc. (BGI) in Sorsogon and Albay provinces has tripped off. In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), Energy Development Corp. (EDC), who owns BGI, said the 20 megawatt (MW) Unit 3 of the Bac-Man auto-tripped on March 5 because of a minor lube oil leak. According to EDC, the inspection is now focused on possible effects to turbine and generator bearings and other components and on the repairs as may be necessary, preparatory to the restarting of the unit. “Spare parts are available on site and the partner-contractors have been mobilized,” it added. Despite this, the EDC vowed to bring back Bac-Man in time for the peak energy demand this coming summer. “The unit is expected to be back in service in time for the peak energy demand in the summer months,” said EDC. During the shutdown, EDC said BGI will take the opportunity to initiate planned facility upgrades.
