Weekly Review of Bearing Steel Market in China (Feb 28th to Mar 6th, 2015)

This week, the domestic bearing steel market operated in downward trend. Many steel mills got back to production, but the demand remained weak. Up to Friday, the average price of continuous casting non-annealed steel nationwide was 4145 yuan/ton, the average price of die-casting annealed steel is 5194 yuan/ton, and the prevailing quotations for continuous casting non-annealed steel from the second ranking steel plants in South China remains in the range of 3900 to 4100 yuan/ton.
[Raw Materials Markets]
1. Ores
On Mar 6th, some imported ore varieties fell in price. The average price of PB fines was 450-460 yuan, down by 5 yuan; PB ores 630-650 yuan, down by 10; Yandicoogina fines 395-405 yuan, flat; super special fines 375-390 yuan, flat; 62.5% Brazil coarse particle ores 460-465, flat.
On Mar 6th, the ore price in Tangshan was weak. 66% iron powder Qian'an was 495 yuan; 66% iron powder in Zunhua was 490 yuan, 60% iron powder was 420 yuan; 66% iron powder in Qianxi was 485 yuan.
2. Coking coal
Domestic coking coal market remained weak, and some coal mines cut the price. Market transactions were ordinary while the downstream demand was low. Short-term expectations were pessimistic.
3. Steel billet
On Mar 6th, the direct sending price of billet steel was 1995-2000 yuan in Tangshan; spot price was 2000 yuan, no deal made; some finished materials fell in price, poorly traded; preformed billets remained stable in price.
On Mar 6th, the ex-factory price of common square billet from major steel mills was still 1990 yuan (cash and tax inclusive).
[Major Markets]
[East China Region] This week, the bearing steel price in East China market remained stable in the weak trend. Market gradually started, but end users remained cautious about purchase due to the decline trend in the steel market. Procurement cycle was extended, and the trading volume will stay low in the short term. Up to this weekend, the quotations in Hangzhou market are as follows: Beiman Steel GCr15Φ30-70 non-annealed steel was 3,800 yuan/ton; Nanjing Steel GCr15Φ20-0 continuous casting non-annealed steel was 3,700 yuan/ton; Xingcheng Steel GCr15Φ50 non-annealed steel was 4,500 yuan/ton, less stock. This week, the bearing steel price in Wuxi market was basically stable, and the turnover was ordinary. Up to this weekend, the quotations in Wuxi market are as follows: Xingcheng Steel GCr15Φ30-75 hot-rolled non-annealed steel was 4,500 yuan/ton; Xinyegang Steel GCr15Φ30-50 continuous casting annealed steel was 3,900 yuan/ton; Beiman Steel GCr15Φ40-75 heat-treated annealed steel was 4,600 yuan/ton; Wuxi Huarun Steel GCr15Φ50-80 had no accurate quote, less stock; Nanjing Steel GCr15Φ50 hot-rolled non-annealed steel was around 3,750 yuan/ton.
[North China Region]This week, Shenyang market remained weak, thinly traded. As most steel mills started operation late after the Festival, there were almost no market purchases. Up to this weekend, Benxi Steel Φ90-120 continuous casting steel was 4,050 yuan/ton; Benxi Steel GCr15Φ160-180 die-casting annealed steel was 5,400 yuan/ton. This week, the bearing steel price in Harbin market was flat, and the deal was ordinary. Benxi Steel GCr15Φ20-75 heat-treated annealed steel was 4,200 yuan/ton, out of stock; Dongbei Special Steel GCr15Φ50 heat-treated annealed steel was out of stock; Dongbei Special Steel GCr15Φ40-75 continuous casting non-annealed steel was 3,900 yuan/ton.
[Forecast for the next week]
Based on the current market situation, only few downstream enterprises started operation, and scant demand is considered to be the main reason for price consolidation. Market demand is unlikely to improve in the short term, and the price will continues the consolidation state at the bottom.
