The Timken Foundation of Canton will have a new executive director in July after the current director retires.
A new executive director will be leading the Timken Foundation of Canton beginning in July.
James M. Gresh, currently a TimkenSteel Corp. executive, will take the leadership position at the foundation. He takes over for Jeffrey A Halm, who is retiring.
“Jeff has provided fine leadership in guiding our charitable work in communities around the world, and we wish him all the best as he enjoys retirement,” Ward J. “Jack” Timken Sr., Timken Foundation president, said in a news release announcing the change.
Halm has led the foundation since 2011. Before that he was a partner with Buckingham, Doolittle & Burroughs and still has an “of counsel” relationship with the law firm.
Gresh will oversee Timken Foundation activities worldwide, serving as the primary community contact and working closely with the foundation’s trustees on grant and policy decisions. He also will work with other foundations to identify community issues and evaluate grant requests.
“We’re pleased that Jim is joining us to help carry on the Foundation’s mission,” Timken said in the release. “He understands the importance of a strong community and, in both his personal endeavors and his decades of experience in international business, has built solid relationships in the communities where he’s lived and worked.”
Gresh is retiring after 33 years with TimkenSteel and Timken. He spent much of his career in international operations, including leading Timken’s business in China. He and his wife, Heidi, have worked with local charities in the communities where they’ve lived.
Gresh currently serves on the boards of the Stark Educational Partnership and the Canton Regional Chamber of Commerce. He earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and an master’s in business administration from Harvard.
The Timken Foundation is a private, nonprofit, family foundation created in 1934 by Henry H. Timken Sr. and his sisters Amelia Bridges and Cora Burnett. Through the years, the Timken family — through the foundation — has disbursed more than $350 million in grants, most of it in communities where Timken and TimkenSteel operate.
