A Huntsville company focused on helicopter health monitoring technology and analysis says it will expand its reach soon with new offices in the United Kingdom and Asia.
RMCI, Inc., announced today from the Paris Air Show its plans to establish a presence in Derbyshire, England, to better serve customers throughout the UK and Europe. Acoustics specialist and aviation expert Dr. Lesley Brealey will run the office.
The firm says it will also enter Asia sometime next year.
"The demand for the technology that we are on the leading edge of developing is dramatically expanding globally," RMCI CEO Ken Speaks said in a statement. "We are able to detect emerging failures in helicopter drive-train systems well in advance of an incident that could cause collateral damage or catastrophic damage. Demand for that type of technology in safety critical systems — saving lives, reducing costs — is rapidly growing."
The U.S. military uses RMCI to monitor transmissions, gearboxes, bearings, shafts, rotor systems and other critical helicopter components. The company's Expandable Rotorcraft Diagnostic System also benefits helicopter fleets.
Founded nine years ago, RMCI serves a variety of customers, including the U.S. Navy, U.S. Army Aviation Engineering Directorate and Aviation and Missile Command Headquarters, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Missile Defense Agency, NASA, U.S. Air Force and the Aerospace Industries Association. The company is expanding its civil aviation base.
The service-disabled, veteran-owned small business employs about 20 people in Huntsville, according to its website. Chamber of Commerce of Huntsville/Madison County Chairman Rey Almodovar praised the company's international growth.
"It is wonderful to see a local aerospace company advancing into the global market," he said.
Earlier this week, the City of Huntsville announced it will begin a series of preliminary studies to determine the feasibility of landing the Dream Chaser spacecraft at Huntsville International Airport. If the findings prove successful, the commercial service airport could be the first to accommodate Dream Chaser spacecraft landings, either on missions to the ISS or in low-Earth orbit.
