The Schaeffler Greater China Renewable Energy Symposium – The 9th Wind Power Symposium & Wind MRO Forum 2015 was recently held in Guangxi. Dr. Zhang Yilin, CEO Schaeffler Greater China, Helmut Bode, President Industrial Schaeffler Greater China, and Dr. Volker Maier, Vice President Industrial Applications Schaeffler Greater China attended the symposium. Dr. Zhang said in his speech that Schaeffler continues to value China's wind power and renewable energy market, and will accelerate the pace of localization of its industrial products in China. In order to better adapt to market development and maintain its leading position in the future, Schaeffler consolidated the wide-ranging industrial applications sector into four business units – Mobility, Production Machinery, Energy & Raw Materials, and Aerospace – covering Schaeffler’s bearing and linear products and services in more than 60 sectors. Dr. Maier pointed out that renewable energy is an important business area of the Energy & Raw Materials Business Unit in China, which includes wind, water and solar power. As the fastest growing sector in the Business Unit, wind energy has been given particular attention both in Schaeffler Greater China and world wide. Schaeffler has more than 30 years’ experience in the wind power industry, developing and manufacturing a full range of bearing solutions for wind turbines, and providing on-line monitoring and services. Schaeffler can produce wind turbine spindle bearings up to 4.25 m in diameter and has the world's largest and most advanced large-size bearing test rig. Currently, Schaeffler has entered into close cooperation with the major wind turbine manufacturers and subcontractors in China. Nie Guangyu, Director of Energy & Raw Materials of Schaeffler Greater China Industrial, said that the Chinese government had clearly stated that between now and 2020, it would increase the share of domestic primary energy supply accounted for by renewable energy from 7% to 16%, with installed wind power capacity reaching 200 million kW. "Schaeffler will work hard with the relevant enterprises and institutions in contributing to the attainment of this goal," said Mr. Nie, adding that bearings are a core component of renewable energy equipment and that efficient, long-life bearings can significantly improve energy efficiency. As a leading global supplier of bearings, Schaeffler's strengths lie not only in wind power bearings, but also in its highly reliable and advanced bearing products in the fields of water power, utilization of water resources, solar power and other fields; these products including river turbine bearings, hydraulic screw bearings and dam gate spherical plain bearings. The theme of the seminar was "Quality focus and technological innovation to boost the development of the sector." He Dexin, Honorable Chairman of the Chinese Wind Energy Association (CWEA) of China Renewable Energy Society (CRES), sent a letter congratulating the company for convening the seminar. Shi Dinghuan, President of CRES, attended the seminar and gave a speech in which he said that the Schaeffler Group had made a contribution to China's renewable energy industry through its advanced products, technologies and services. Mr. Shi also hoped that in future, advanced international companies such as Schaeffler would be able to work more closely with domestic manufacturers for the mutual benefit of all parties. The seminar was attended by around 100 representatives of domestic wind power manufacturers and subcontractors, as well as manufacturers and institutions in the water power, solar energy and other renewable energy fields. At the meeting, Schaeffler also presented certificates and scholarships to student winners of the Schaeffler Green Wind Energy Scholarship. The scholarship is jointed organized by Schaeffler and CWEA with Schaeffler as the fund provider. It has been awarded for 5 years for 24 doctoral students and 22 postgraduate students as well as their tutors.
