Senvion Canada Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of Senvion GmbH, and Developer EDF EN Canada Inc. a subsidiary of EDF Energies Nouvelles, are celebrating the inauguration of the Rivière-du-Moulin wind project. With 175 2 megawatt (MW) turbines totaling 350 MW, the wind project consists of Senvion MM92 and MM82 Cold Climate Version (CCV) type turbines. Several of the turbines are equipped with Senvion de-icing technology that is adapted for Quebec’s cold climate conditions. The Rivière-du-Moulin wind project is the biggest onshore contract in the history of Senvion and comes as part of the 1 GW framework agreement Senvion signed with EDF EN Canada Inc. in 2009. The project is located in the unorganized territory (UT) Lac Pikauba in the MRC de Charlevoix and the UT of Lac Ministuk in the MRC du Fjord du Saguenay. Rivière-du-Moulin is expected to produce enough electricity to power approximately 77 000 households with clean, renewable energy. At the occasion of the inaugural ceremony, Helmut Herold, Chief Executive Officer of Senvion in North America said: “I am proud to be a part of this inaugural ceremony for the Rivière-du-Moulin wind farm alongside our long standing partner EDF EN Canada. Rivière-du-Moulin is the largest installations for Senvion in Canada so far and allows us to continue to contribute to the local and regional expertise that we have garnered over our many years here in Quebec. Thanks to a collective effort, Rivière-du-Moulin is an example of how cooperation between industry partners, governments and communities drives change for cheaper and cleaner energy in Quebec.” Since establishing itself in Quebec in 2007, Senvion has endeavored to ensure components for its turbines are sourced locally. The company’s focus on creating manufacturing jobs in the province encourages further development of Quebec’s regional know-how and innovation in the wind industry. Towers, converters and blades for the Rivière-du-Moulin wind project were supplied by the established local supply chain in the Gaspésie region, of which, Senvion is responsible for the creation of 2/3 of the manufacturing jobs. Senvion sources turbine components from local manufacturers such as Marmen for towers, LM Windpower for blades and Woodward for converters.
