GE to increase wind turbine production capacity in Brazil

August 12 (SeeNews) - General Electric Co (NYSE:GE) said Tuesday it will increase the annual production capacity of its Campinas wind turbine factory in Sao Paulo, Brazil, to 500 machines from the current 400 units per year. Following the expansion, the US conglomerate will be able to add more than 1 GW to the grid annually, representing half of the wind power capacity contracted in the auctions held in 2014. Meanwhile, GE partnered with Swedish bearings manufacturer SKF (STO:SKF-A), which started in June operations at its BRL-73-million (USD 21m/EUR 18.8m) wind bearings production facility in the country. Over the past two years, GE was responsible for attracting more than 100 new suppliers and encouraged the installation of six new manufacturing facilities of partners in Brazil. Later in the year, the company will put into operation three more service centres in the states of Piaui, Pernambuco and Rio Grande do Sul. (BRL 1 = USD 0.286/EUR 0.259)
