Bearing supplier Lignum Vitae North America has announces its water- and self-lubricated bearings have achieved NSH/ANSI61: Drinking Water System Components - Health Effects certification. This certification verifies that products are safe for use in drinking water and comply with U.S. and Canada regulatory requirements for many components used in water systems. NSF International is an independent organization that develops standards and tests and certifies products and systems. Components certified to the NSF/ANSI61 standard undergo rigorous testing to ensure regulatory compliance for components that contact drinking water from source to tap. Components are tested to determine what contaminants, if any, may migrate or leach from products into drinking water. Companies that manufacture, sell or distribute products that come into contact with drinking water in North America are required to comply with the NSF/ANSI61 standard. Lignum Vitae provides water-lubricated bearings to hydro plants worldwide that are made from sustainably-sourced Lignum Vitae wood, which is naturally self-lubricating. “Bearings made from Lignum Vitae wood offer reduced environmental impact because they contain no lead or toxic metals and require no oil or grease when in use,” says Bob Shortridge, president of Lignum Vitae North America.
