Goldwind's Wind Business Booms Overseas

International business is booming for Goldwind, China’s largest wind power equipment maker and an exporter that depends on project cargo carriers to supply clients at wind farms worldwide. Not only does Goldwind’s overseas success bode well for carriers that haul its wind blades and turbines, but it parallels a surge for installations at Chinese wind farms. For the first half of the year, the company reported 1.14 billion yuan in revenues from overseas sales, up 82 percent from the same period 2014. Especially strong were sales in Africa and Asian countries beyond China. Company revenues from all sources jumped 110% in the January-June period from first half 2014 to 9.37 billion yuan, according to a Goldwind financial report. A major breakthrough for the company came in April, when Goldwind clinched its first wind farm supply deal in South Africa. The company will sell 48 turbines to developer Biotherm Energy for a 120-megawatt wind farm in Eastern Cape Province. Goldwind also won contracts to supply wind farms now under construction in Thailand and Pakistan. These and other Asian initiatives reflect the company’s participation in the Chinese government’s One Belt, One Road push to expand the country’s commercial ties to Southeast and Central Asia. Meanwhile, Goldwind’s financial report said, the total amount of wind-generated electricity used in China rose 20 percent in the first half to nearly 98 billion kilowatt hours. Total nationwide wind power capacity jumped 27 percent to 105 million kilowatts in the first six months of the year.
