* Manufacturing is set to begin in third Quarter of 2016
* The main product will be the thermal management module for the automotive industry
With investments of more than 92.5 million euros and the creation of 960 new jobs in a period of three to five years, the Schaeffler Group's new manufacturing plant in Svitavy will provide a significant boost to the company's sustainable growth in Eastern Europe. The foundation stone was laid yesterday to mark the start of construction on the new manufacturing hall in Svitavy's industrial district. The first machines are set to begin production in the fall of 2016, and Schaeffler expects the plant to be operating at full capacity by 2019.
A large proportion of the investment will be used for the procurement of new machines, which will be set up in the existing Lanškroun manufacturing plant and particularly in the new Svitavy plant. "The sum of 18.5 million euros is to be spent on the construction of the new manufacturing hall in Svitavy", explained Jan Goláň, plant manager at INA Lanškroun. Mr. Goláň also stated that the new plant will specialize in a particular product: "The main focus will be on manufacturing thermal management modules (TMMs), for which there has recently been an extremely high demand from Schaeffler's existing customers. We are also confident that we will acquire further customers as well. We supply numerous renowned car manufactures in the European and overseas."
The importance of the new jobs being created in Svitavy and the surrounding area, as well as the extraordinarily high investment being made in the new manufacturing facility, is also emphasized by the fact that yesterday's ceremony to mark the laying of the foundation stone in Svitavy was attended by Schaeffler's Chief Operating Officer Oliver Jung, INA Lanškroun's plant manager Jan Goláň, and the Czech Republic's President Miloš Zeman. The President made an important point of visiting Svitavy during his three-day trip around the Pardubice region and, in taking this opportunity, was joined by Martin Netolický, district commissioner for Pardubice, and by David Šimek, mayor of Svitavy.
Production at the new Svitavy plant
The thermal management module (TMM) controls thermal conditions during engine op-eration and regulates the temperature for the entire drive system, which means that the internal combustion engine reaches its optimum operating temperature in a very short space of time. This is the key to achieving a reduction of up to 4 percent in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
