Schaeffler's new FAG Generation C ball bearings reducing noise, friction and energy use

World-leading bearing design innovator, Schaeffler has introduced its latest FAG Generation C deep groove ball bearings into the Australian market.
The FAG Generation C bearing range offers 50 per cent less noise, 35 per cent less friction and reduced energy consumption compared to conventional technology. The introduction of Schaeffler’s latest single-row bearings is preceded by a decade’s development to set world benchmarks of cost-efficiency, reliability and energy efficiency. The new ball bearings increase the efficiency of electric motors and meet the strict requirements for noise control. Additionally, FAG Generation C bearings also reduce maintenance and eliminate dust ingress in machinery used in challenging environments.
Standard models of the self-retaining bearings can be used up to an operating temperature of 120°C (unsealed) and -30°C to +110°C (sealed), making them ideal for applications where reliability, avoidance of downtime and environmental issues are important considerations.
Available in sizes ranging from 10mm to 50mm bore diameters, Schaeffler’s new ball bearings find application in electric motors used in resources and energy areas, including conveyor idlers, winches, lifting equipment and drives, through to manufacturing, construction, food and beverage and primary processing applications such as HVAC, refrigeration, fans, power tools, washing machines and agricultural machinery.
According to Schaeffler Australia Engineering and Quality Manager, Mr Andreas Pieper, Generation C deep groove ball bearings generate extremely low friction, helping directly enhance the efficiency of smaller industrial electric motors, the capacity of which is largely determined by power loss of their bearings. The inside construction of the bearing is perfectly matched for use in electric motors.
Key features of FAG Generation C single row deep groove ball bearings include optimised raceways to reduce friction featuring improved raceway surfaces and optimised osculation to minimise wear; choice of robust riveted steel cage or polyamide cage with excellent sliding and wear characteristics for high speeds; riveted steel cage design giving higher stability with less noise and reduced sensitivity to shocks; new seal concept significantly improving bearing life by balancing friction and sealing action; bearings greased for life with high-quality grease; and choice of one or two seals and special radial internal clearance, offering superior protection against dust and internal corrosion.
Schaeffler’s new ball bearings are also offered with highly protective surface coatings such as Corrotect anti-corrosion and thin layer chromium plating against fretting corrosion for particularly challenging applications.
