New Zealand company takes out international design award for load-bearing collars
One of the winners at this year's DAME design awards announced at the METS trade show was New Zealand-based TruDesign which won in the marina equipment, boatyard equipment and boat construction tools and materials category.
The company won for its range of load bearing collars that are designed for use with its composite thru-hull skin fittings and ball valves.
The collar is designed to eliminate the need for additional fasteners through the hull, as is the case with traditional bronze flanged seacocks, making it unique in the marketplace.
With the collar installed, the entire assembly is designed to withstand a 227 kg (500lb) static force applied to the hose tail end of the assembly, for a minimum of 30 seconds – complying with North America’s ABYC H-27 standard.
Established in 1974, TruDesign specialises in the design, manufacture and marketing of high quality marine valves, skin fittings, hose nozzles and associated products. All products are made in New Zealand from the latest high-impact resistant composite plastic materials and are recognised by a number of international certifications which testify to their robust design, manufacture and testing processes.
Managing director Alan Maddox said the recent DAME award is an acknowledgement of the hard work of the team.
“After exhibiting at METS for the past 10 years we are extremely happy upon winning this year’s DAME award and it is great recognition for our design team who, with this innovative and compact design, have now completely changed the concept of a skin fitting and ball valve assembly,” said Maddox.
“To win the DAME award for an innovative product like the load bearing collar confirms once again to our customers that TruDesign are the market leaders in marine composite fittings.”
