Baosteel made successful trial manufacture of Ultra High Strength Coiled Tubing Steel

Recently, the first batch of Baosteel ultra-high strength coiled tubing steel CT130 achieved successful trial manufacture, which marks Baosteel obtain the production capacity of ultra-high strength coiled tubing steel, filling the domestic gap and help national shale gas industry develop into deeper and more severe working condition environment.
In the past two years, the working condition of domestic and oversea shale gas development gradually deteriorated, the demand of high-strength coiled tubing steel above CT100 series by the users grows rapidly. however the process technology of high strength coiled tubing steel is complex, requiring high production control requirements, by present no domestic manufacturers have the production capacity, and rare oversea steel mills can produce as well.
According to the development trend of domestic and oversea coiled tubing applications, Baosteel began the products development of coiled tubing steel in 2007. After several rounds of ingredients and process optimization, Baosteel gradually broke through the control problems such as product surface, product strength, having obtained CT80-CT100 series steel grade specifications products supply capacity.
Recently, users proposed their demand of ultra-high strength coiled tubing steel to Baosteel. The steel not only required high strength and ductility, but also has high requirements on internal quality, surface cleanliness, thickness accuracy and performance uniformity, which leongs to high-end hot-rolled products.
Baosteel made rapid response on the needs of users, taking full advantages of consistent management system, using innovative metallurgical solutions and process technology, on the basis of several rounds verification of laboratory tests, optimizing the existing products alloy design and manufacturing processes, successfully trial-manufacturing ultra-high strength coiled tubing steel CT130. Upon the examination, each performance indicators of the trial steel all satisfy the requirements of user technology agreement and has been delivered to the user.
