The system maintains precise control without the use of robots, making it an effective solution for automakers. As the system enables vehicles to be driven straight through the CAN bus it eliminates the need for robots and humans. This development denotes a crucial step forward, easing the process of installation and testing, minimizing the number of hardware required, and reducing overall costs.

Drive-by-Wire – Key Enabler for Autonomous Vehicles

With the expanding scope of autonomous vehicles across the globe, companies are continually working to design cutting-edge systems that could enhance the performance of future autonomous cars.

On a similar line, the Schaeffler Group, an automotive industry company in collaboration with Paravan GmbH and Roland Arnold agreed on an agreement for establishing a joint venture. The objective behind the joint venture company—Schaeffler Paravan Technologies GmbH und Co. KG is to further develop the SPACE DRIVE drive-by-wire technology by Paravan and to develop and market mobility systems.

Steer-by-wire Technology Enhancing Mixed Mode Driving 

Drive-by-wire technology is not the only one enhancing the capabilities of autonomous driving. Automotive engineers are increasingly considering steer-by-wire technology that would instantly allow drivers to take control of the driving and offer safe transition. Nexteer Automotive, an automotive parts supplier is prepping the steering technology for achieving seamless mixed-mode and autonomous driving. The company’s steer-by-wire system also functions as a key enabler to ‘Steering on Demand’, along with the Nexteer’s Stowable Steering Column and Quiet Wheel Steering innovations. This steer-by-wire system consists of variable steering ratios and performance settings.
