Foundation has been awarding the School Award Award for 19 years


"Urban Farming", "Smart Home" and "Bridge Builder": For this work, the Schaeffler FAG Foundation has awarded three schools with the Innovation Award 2018 for school promotion. The prize was awarded in the categories "Realschule / Gymnasium" and "Grundschulen". At a ceremony in Schweinfurt, Andreas Hamann, Head of Human Resources Europe and Chairman of the Foundation Board, as well as Dr. Ing. Josef Scheller, Managing Director of the Foundation and Head of Supply Chain Management Interfaces, awards the winners and their teachers.


Schaeffler FAG Foundation as an engine for knowledge transfer
"The FAG Foundation is an engine for knowledge, knowledge transfer and the development of potential. It is an expression of corporate and social responsibility, "Andreas Hamann explained the purpose of the foundation. Since its foundation in 1983, the Schaeffler FAG Foundation has distributed more than one million euros in subsidies. In order to get young people interested in technology and technical professions at an early age, 19 years ago, in addition to the promotion of higher education and science, "school promotion" was also launched. The foundation supports science-technical, mostly cross-curricular projects in schools.


The winners
The first prize of 3,000 euros went to the Gymnasium Höchstadt a. d. Aisch for the project "Urban Farming - Building an Growroom". The students designed and built a spherical facility for the interior for the home-grown use of useful and ornamental plants in large cities. The aim of the project was to investigate the growth behavior of suitable plants in different soils with the help of the "Growrooms" they designed. In collaboration with local companies, the students were able to put their project into action and made much of their work using CNC laser milling machines.


Second prize of 2,000 euros went to the Ernestinum Coburg secondary school for the "Smart Home" project. The aim of this cooperation project of the 10th grade with the Coburg University was to give the students an insight into a yet unknown technology, applied knowledge from mathematics, computer science and physics and to promote both team spirit and self-responsible work. The student group independently developed devices that make life, especially in the home, easier and safer.


In the category "Primary Schools", the prize of 1,000 euros went to the Dreiberg School Knetzgau, which was awarded the project "Bridge Builders". The fourth-graders designed and built bridges from everyday materials, taking their stability and resilience into account. Creative and playful problem-solving also aroused interest in STEM education.
