Automated 3D print support removal system

XJet’s SMART (Support Material Automatic Removal Technology) station automates the post-printing removal of soluble support materials from ceramic parts printed by XJet’s Carmel C line of additive manufacturing (AM) systems. With its advanced algorithms and design, SMART features a selection of user-friendly automated support removal programs with differing water levels and flow rates optimized for the specific job. SMART ensures a repeatable high-yield process that significantly reduces cleaning time and costs while eliminating the need for expert operator.


SMART builds upon the advantages of XJet’s proprietary NanoParticle Jetting™ (NPJ) technology, which empowers the manufacturing of detailed high-quality parts with virtually unlimited geometries. This groundbreaking material jetting technology enables simultaneously jetting of a build material and a different soluble support material, which dissolves easily from the printed part.

As much as 70% of the time and cost of producing a printed part is spent on removing support structures and finishing the part.


At the RAPID + TCT 2021 show in Chicago September 13-15, XJet will be demonstrating its SMART touch-free automated support removal system at Booth #7401, along with the XJet Carmel 1400C ceramic AM system and printed samples from alumina, zirconia, and stainless steel.


In addition, XJet CBO Dror Danai will deliver a presentation on “The Use of NPJ-Enabled Ceramic AM in Treating Breast Cancer” in Classroom D on Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 10 AM.
