Automotive News honors the company’s P2 hybrid module and innovation partnership with its customer Ford

Awards provide further confirmation of Schaeffler's e-mobility strategy and innovative pioneering spirit

Order intake in e-mobility as of H1/2021 already at 2.1 billion euros, targeting 2-3 billion euros per year starting in 2022

Schaeffler was honored for its P2 hybrid module used in rear-wheel-drive transmissions at the 2021 Automotive News PACE Awards ceremony, which took place online this year. The PACE Awards recognize automotive suppliers for groundbreaking innovations, technological advancement and corporate performance.

The company, together with Ford Motor Co., also received an Innovation Partnership Award in recognition of their successful collaboration in the development of the system. Automotive News presents this award to automakers that do an exceptional job of collaborating with a supplier to drive innovation.

Schaeffler’s hybrid module is an achievement in design and optimized packaging. The module consists of an electric motor and an automated disconnect clutch that are mounted between the engine and transmission. Thanks to its compact design, the hybrid module can be used in a variety of vehicle platforms.

"We are especially pleased to have been honored with two prestigious Automotive News PACE Awards this year. These awards once again underscore Schaeffler's core commitment to innovation and effective customer cooperation," said Matthias Zink, CEO Automotive Technologies of Schaeffler AG. "I would like to offer my sincerest congratulations to our P2 hybrid module team for developing a next-generation technology. At the same time, this award once again underscores the fact that Schaeffler is the preferred technology partner for our customers."

Schaeffler shapes E-mobility solutions
E-mobility is both a key technology for Schaeffler as well as a field for continuous growth. Founded in 2018, the company’s E-Mobility division is actively shaping this technology and has already received series-production orders across all levels of electrification in both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. With 2.1 billion euros in e-mobility orders received in the first half of 2021, Schaeffler has already exceeded its full-year targets in this area. Starting in 2022, the company expects its E-Mobility division to receive orders worth 2-3 billion euros each year.

"Our systems understanding, unsurpassed quality as well as Schaeffler's high level of manufacturing and technological expertise across all of the components in electric drive systems are essential keys to producing products that offer both state-of-the-art technology and cost-effectiveness," said Dr. Jochen Schröder, President of the E-Mobility division of Schaeffler AG. "From an e-motor to a 3-in-1 system for hybrid or e-axle applications, we are able to offer our customers a complete product portfolio – regardless of whether this involves a system, a subsystem or a single component." Thanks to the enormous depth in added value, Schaeffler can quickly translate innovations into customer-ready solutions, as evidenced by the P2 hybrid module for Ford.

The 27th annual PACE Awards were presented by Automotive News and the Automotive Parts Manufacturers’ Association (APMA). The competition is open to suppliers that contribute products, processes, materials or services directly to the production of cars and trucks. The Automotive News PACE Award is accepted around the world as the industry benchmark for innovation.

Schaeffler earned the award following an extensive review by an independent panel of judges. The decision was based on a comprehensive written application as well as a virtual site visit. This is Schaeffler’s third PACE Award win in the past five years, of which two were for e-mobility solutions.
