Schaeffler and Stadtwerke Bühl open the largest public charging park in the region in Bußmatten
Charging for everyone at 22 new charging points in the Bußmatten commercial area
Successful cooperation between Schaeffler and Stadtwerke Bühl
The Schaeffler Group is a leading global bearing supplier to the automotive and industrial sectors.
Since mid-June, the city of Bühl has gained a charging park with 22 charging points. Directly on the B3 federal road, in the parking lot of the Schaeffler factory in the Bußmatten industrial park, e-car drivers can now charge their electric vehicles with up to 22 kilowatts. This is made possible by a cooperation between the automotive and industrial supplier Schaeffler and Stadtwerke Bühl. The charging points are spread over eleven charging stations and, thanks to the cooperation between the two partners, are now available to drivers for charging their electric vehicles. "Electric mobility is part of our DNA at Schaeffler," says Trudbert Kraus, Head of Operations Automotive Technologies at Schaeffler in Bühl. "So it's all the more fitting that our location in Bußmatten is also the headquarters of our e-mobility division. This is where our heart beats for electrified mobility.” The company provides the parking spaces for the charging stations and financed the construction of the charging park. What is special, however, is that the charging stations are not only available to company employees, but to all e-drivers. Access to the stations is via the roundabout in front of the Schaeffler plant without any barriers or access controls.
The charging stations are operated by Stadtwerke Bühl GmbH. The municipal company set up the charging stations and the necessary infrastructure. "Our goal is to provide the necessary charging options in step with the increasing demand for electromobility. With this organic expansion in our region, we ensure that the mobility turnaround can be implemented locally and gradually arise where it is needed," explains Stadtwerke Managing Director Rüdiger Höche. Colleague Managing Director Reiner Liebich adds: “The innovative power of companies like Schaeffler is a guarantee for the success of the mobility transition. As a regional municipal utility, we are happy to make our contribution to the development and expansion of the necessary infrastructure.” The municipal utility also supplies the charging points with 100 percent renewable electricity. Drivers need a type 2 plug to charge. Then it is sufficient to activate the charging stations with a charging card. In future, a QR code on the column can also be scanned with a cell phone to start the charging process. Detailed instructions are located on each charging station.
At Schaeffler, e-bikes charge directly on the factory premises
Anyone who rides an e-bike to work at Schaeffler can also charge these batteries on site at the factory. However, the company only offers this service to its employees. Twelve charging points are already available for this at the main plant in Bühl. Further charging options for e-bikes will soon be available at the plants in Bußmatten and Sasbach.
