Recently, the NXZ Equipment Manufacturing Workshop completed a major technological upgrade—an innovative transformation of the loading and unloading mechanisms of two CNC internal diameter grinding machines (models 3MK2040 and 3MK2050) in the large-scale section of the finished product workshop. This upgrade abandoned the traditional cylinder-driven method and introduced a more advanced servo drive system, effectively solving two long-standing production problems: "loading damaging the support" and "insufficient unloading thrust."

Precise Control, Eliminating Hidden Dangers

The core of the upgrade lies in replacing the original cylinder-driven mechanism with a high-precision servo motor, directly connecting it to a precision lead screw via a coupling, achieving digital and precise control of the loading and unloading process. This not only allows for flexible adjustment of workpiece displacement and speed according to specific process requirements but also completely changes the previous rough, impact-based loading method, replacing it with a more stable and accurate placement method. Furthermore, to further ensure workpiece safety, an auxiliary cylinder ejection device was added between the two support points, ensuring that the workpiece can be gently lifted from the support after grinding and smoothly pulled out by the main servo system, thus solving the problem of insufficient thrust caused by unstable air pressure.

From Raw Material Selection to Finished Product Traceability: Striving for Excellence Across the Entire Chain

In bearing manufacturing, the selection of raw materials is fundamental to determining product performance and lifespan. ZWZ has established strict standards for steel procurement. Selected materials must possess high strength, high hardness, and excellent wear resistance. Each batch undergoes chemical composition and mechanical property testing before warehousing. For this purpose, significant investment has been made in advanced equipment such as German-made spectrometers and electronic universal testing machines. The spectrometer can accurately detect the chemical composition of steel within 3 minutes, with a detection accuracy of 0.001%. The electronic universal testing machine can simulate actual bearing operating conditions, conducting tensile, compressive, and bending mechanical property tests on the steel. These devices ensure stable and reliable material quality. ZWZ has also established a raw material traceability system. Each batch of steel has a unique identifier, allowing traceability of its origin, production date, inspection report, and other information.

"In terms of manufacturing processes, ZWZ continuously innovates, for example, by adopting bainitic heat treatment quenching technology," explained the head of ZWZ's technology R&D department. "This technology, through isothermal transformation within a specific temperature range, significantly improves the hardness and wear resistance of the material while maintaining its original rigidity." Grinding is one of the most precision-required processes in bearing manufacturing. ZWZ has introduced high-precision CNC grinding machines from Germany, achieving a machining accuracy of 0.001mm, equivalent to 1/100th the thickness of a human hair. The fully automated CNC grinding machines in the workshop can simultaneously grind both the inner and outer surfaces of the bearing outer ring, increasing efficiency by three times compared to traditional equipment.

In the finished product inspection stage, ZWZ uses an advanced bearing performance testing platform to comprehensively test the bearing's rotational flexibility, lifespan, noise, vibration, and temperature rise by simulating actual bearing operating conditions.

ZWZ has also established an assembly quality traceability system. Each assembled bearing has a unique identifier, allowing traceability of its assembly process and the quality inspection results of each step.

From Independent Design to Widespread Application: A Masterpiece

As the third-generation self-aligning roller bearing developed by ZWZ, the stamped cage type self-aligning roller bearing, awarded the "Liaoning Excellent Product" title in 2025, adopts a structural design of "stamped cage + movable spacer". This innovative design increases the number and length of rollers, optimizes lubrication distribution, and gives the bearing advantages such as higher load capacity, wider speed range, longer service life, and lower operating noise. As a high-end new energy equipment manufacturing base and regional service center meticulously built by CRRC Qishuyan Institute in the "Three Norths" region (Northwest, North, and Northeast China) in response to the national "dual-carbon" strategy and to implement CRRC Group's "dual-track, dual-cluster" industrial layout, Baotou Wind Power Transmission Company was established in December 2024 and put into operation in September 2025. The project has a total investment of 600 million yuan, with an initial investment of 120 million yuan, covering an area of 25,000 square meters. It is equipped with the largest 20MW wind turbine gearbox comprehensive loading test bench in the "Three Norths" region, and has the capacity to produce 800 sets of 3-20MW doubly-fed and semi-direct-drive wind turbine gearboxes annually.

The launch of the full spectrum of gearbox products for "Sand, Gobi, and Desert" wind power projects and the commencement of production at Baotou Wind Power Transmission Company are concrete actions taken by CRRC Qishuyan Institute to implement the national "dual-carbon" strategy, integrate into CRRC's "one core, three poles, and multiple points" business layout, and actively respond to the national initiative to build large-scale wind power and photovoltaic bases in the sandy, Gobi, and desert regions. On December 3, after 72 hours of continuous operation testing, the turbine-to-high-speed motor conversion project for the 150,000-ton/year nitric acid plant's four-in-one unit, undertaken by ShaanGu, successfully completed its first trial run, was put into operation smoothly, and reached full production capacity and standards. This marks a significant breakthrough in my country's technology for fully domestically produced high-speed motor drive systems in the field of nitric acid four-in-one units, demonstrating ShaanGu's core strength as a major national equipment manufacturer in high-end equipment technology innovation.

Against the backdrop of the deepening implementation of the "dual-carbon" strategy, users have raised the demand for "gasoline-to-electricity" conversions. However, what users need is not a simple modification, but a more technologically advanced and lower-cost direct-drive solution using a fully domestically produced high-speed motor. Faced with the challenge of having no precedent in China, ShaanGu rose to the challenge with technological confidence, pioneering a new breakthrough in domestic substitution technology.

As the first demonstration project of a fully domestically produced high-voltage variable frequency motor for "gasoline-to-electricity" conversion in my country's nitric acid industry, this project is technically challenging, has a tight conversion cycle, and complex system integration, shouldering the important mission of promoting the localization of key equipment and achieving a green and energy-saving transformation. From preliminary joint demonstrations and technical coordination to equipment manufacturing and on-site commissioning, Shaangu, together with users and other partners, has conducted more than 20 in-depth technical exchanges, tackling challenges one by one, such as critical speed matching, shaft torsional vibration calculation, and control system integration. A sales, technical, execution, and service team was quickly assembled to tackle these challenges. In the frigid -10 degrees Celsius weather, the ShaanGu team remained steadfast on the front lines, precisely completing critical tasks such as motor and inverter installation, unit alignment, and integrated commissioning of individual units and the system, ensuring the project's high-quality progress with their professional expertise.

All-dynamic air bearings, due to their advantages such as non-contact operation, zero wear, and ultra-high rotational precision, are regarded as the "heart" of high-end equipment and are widely used in key areas such as semiconductor lithography equipment, aerospace propulsion systems, and precision medical instruments. Recently, the rail transit workshop successfully completed the upgrade and transformation of an automated bearing ring phosphating line, effectively improving overall production efficiency. This transformation not only solved long-standing equipment malfunctions that had plagued production, but also fully demonstrated the wisdom and commitment of employees in innovation, improvement, cost reduction, and efficiency enhancement.

Before the upgrade, the phosphating line used a traditional belt conveyor structure. During operation, the belt frequently experienced slippage, misalignment, wear, and even breakage, resulting in a high equipment failure rate. Frequent downtime for maintenance not only severely impacted the continuity of the bearing ring phosphating process and slowed down the overall production pace, but also required continuous monitoring by dedicated personnel, increasing manpower and placing employees under high labor intensity for extended periods. This conveyor belt had become a bottleneck restricting the production capacity and quality stability of this process.

Faced with this problem, the workshop did not directly apply for new equipment procurement, but instead turned its attention to the surplus conveyor belts stored in the warehouse. Adhering to the principle of "saving costs and making the most of resources," the workshop quickly organized a technical team to tackle the problem. Based on a detailed assessment, and considering the actual operational needs of the phosphating line and the conveying characteristics of the bearing rings, the team meticulously designed a feasible upgrade plan.

During implementation, the upgrade team selected still-durable surplus conveyor belt components from the warehouse to replace and reinforce the original structure. By redesigning the tensioning mechanism and optimizing the support and guiding structure, the operational stability and load-bearing capacity of the conveyor belt were significantly improved. The entire renovation process made full use of existing resources and minimized cost input.

After the renovation, the phosphating line's operation was significantly improved. Equipment failure rates were drastically reduced, the new conveyor belt operated smoothly, and previously frequent malfunctions were largely eliminated, ensuring continuous and stable production. Production efficiency was effectively improved, downtime was significantly reduced, and the bearing ring phosphating process was smoother. Employee workload was also reduced, and the stability of automated operation was enhanced. There was no longer a need for dedicated personnel for continuous monitoring and emergency handling, freeing employees from repetitive, high-intensity monitoring work, allowing them to perform higher value-added tasks, thus increasing employee satisfaction. Furthermore, the renovation made full use of scrap materials, saving on new equipment purchase costs and putting into practice the company's management philosophy of repairing and reusing old materials to reduce costs and increase efficiency.

At 18:27 on November 15th, Unit 1 of the Phase IV 2×660MW Cogeneration Project of Huadian Longkou Company successfully connected to the grid for the first time! Behind this milestone, Sichuan Daomobinda Valve Co., Ltd. First Urban Rail Transit Vehicle Bearing Technology Seminar Held in Shanghai

On November 16, 2025, the First Symposium on Bearing Technology for Urban Rail Transit Vehicles was held in Shanghai. This symposium implemented the four guiding principles of "Intelligence, Green Development, Integration, and Innovation" from the China Urban Rail Transit Association, aiming to promote the high-quality development of urban rail transit. Hosted by the Technical Equipment Professional Committee of the China Urban Rail Transit Association, the symposium attracted 13 rail transit construction and operation owners and 24 upstream and downstream enterprises, universities, research institutions, consulting and design units from across the country. Participants jointly discussed the development of bearing technology in the urban rail transit industry and summarized the innovative achievements and applications of bearing technology for urban rail transit vehicles.

Opening Remarks

On the morning of November 16th, the meeting was chaired by Huang Jianwei, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Urban Rail Transit Association. Ding Shukuai, Vice President of the China Urban Rail Transit Association, Zhou Yu, Chairman of the China Bearing Industry Association, and Ding Yuqing, General Manager of Shanghai Jiyou Mingyu Machinery Technology Co., Ltd., delivered speeches.

Vice President Ding Shukuai stated that bearings, as the "heart component" of the running gear of urban rail transit vehicles, are directly related to the safety baseline of urban rail operation and the foundation for the sustainable development of the industry due to their technological maturity and the ability to independently control the industrial chain. They are also a key tool for the association to implement the national strategy of "safety and stability of the industrial chain and supply chain." All sectors of the industry need to work together to promote breakthroughs in bearing technology and optimize the industrial ecosystem, laying a solid technological foundation for the safe and efficient development of urban rail transit.

Chairman Zhou Yu of the China Bearing Industry Association stated that urban rail bearings, as key components, are crucial to equipment safety and efficiency, and have outstanding strategic value for the industry. Significant progress has been made in the localization of urban rail bearings in my country. Luoyang Bearing's metro axle box bearings have safely operated for 240,000 kilometers on the Luoyang Metro, while Shanghai United Rolling Bearings' products have completed 400,000 kilometers of passenger-carrying operation on Shenzhen Metro Line 11, including axle box bearings and motor bearings. National policies provide strong support for the industry; relevant instructions from General Secretary Xi Jinping and documents issued by the State Council General Office have clearly defined application areas, pointing the way for industrial development.

Ding Yuqing, General Manager of Shanghai Jiyou Mingyu, stated that urban rail transit is the "main artery" of a city, and vehicle bearings, as core components, affect many aspects of train performance. While my country boasts the longest rail transit mileage, there are technological bottlenecks in high-end bearings, and breakthroughs are the industry's responsibility. This seminar brought together various parties to overcome technical difficulties. Li Guoqing, Deputy Director and Secretary-General of the Technical Equipment Professional Committee of the China Urban Rail Transit Association, delivered a concluding speech. He stated that this seminar, for the first time focusing on the sub-sector of urban rail transit vehicle bearings, established a technical exchange platform, highlighting the technological progress of domestically produced bearings and clarifying a clear path for industry development. By implementing the four guiding documents of "Intelligent, Green, Integrated, and Innovative" for China's urban rail transit, accelerating the overcoming of bottlenecks and ensuring "domestic products for domestic use," a solid foundation has been laid for solving the problem of reliance on imported high-end bearings and promoting the high-quality development of rail transit equipment, which is of great significance to the efficient development of the industry.

Concurrently, the conference included a site visit to a production base. Participants collectively visited the Jiading plant of Shanghai United Rolling Bearing Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of Shanghai Electric Group, a co-organizer. The plant's scientific and rational planning and advanced and efficient layout vividly demonstrate the intelligent and automated characteristics of modern manufacturing. This conference reached two points of consensus: First, the time is ripe for the widespread application of domestically produced bearings in China's urban rail transit. It is hoped that within 1-2 years, a group of pioneering users will emerge to utilize domestically produced bearings; and within 3-5 years, the number of users applying domestically produced bearings on a large scale will reach 10-15! According to Shandong Business Daily and Shanhai News, Shandong GED and Taiwan Dongpei Industrial Co., Ltd.
