GKN produces one hundred millionth powder metal main bearing cap

GKN Sinter Metals (a subsidiary of GKN plc, UK) recently produced its 100 millionth main bearing cap using powder metal technology.

The cap was produced on GKN's Honda Accord V6 main bearing cap line in Germantown, Wisconsin.

GKN manufactures main bearing caps at both its Germantown and Manitowoc, Wisconsin facilities. Honda became a customer as of the 2003 model year.

The pioneer in powder metal main bearing cap technology, GKN first produced them for General Motors in 1993. That same year, the cap was named "Powder Metal Part of the Year." by a powder metal association.

GKN manufactures similar bearing caps for Acuras, all Honda Accords, the Honda Odyssey minivan, Honda Pilot SUV, along with several applications at DaimlerChrysler, Ford and General Motors.
