Wartsila designs and powers advanced trawler

A new pelagic fishing trawler ordered by Scottish owner Mewstead LLP will be built according to a Wärtsilä design and will feature a broad scope of Wärtsilä propulsion machinery.

According to Wärtsilä, decisive factors in the award of this contract were the vessel's high level of efficiency derived from the optimised hull lines bollard pull capability and improved working conditions for the crew, including the reduced noise levels made possible by Wärtsilä's 2-speed gearbox.

The full Wärtsilä scope of supply includes the ship design, a 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 32 main engine, two 8-cylinder Wärtsilä 20 auxiliary engines, a 2-speed gearbox, a controllable pitch propeller (CPP) running in a Wärtsilä HP nozzle, a complete stern tube including Wärtsilä Sternguard seals and Wärtsilä Sternsafe bearings. Wärtsilä will also supply its Protouch propulsion control system.

The vessel will be built at the Nauta Shipyard in Poland. When completed, it will operate in the North Sea in the fishing grounds around the coast of Scotland.

Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for mid-2017.
