Florence-based machine tool builder Mazak Corp. has hired away the head of another manufacturer in Kentucky as one of its top officials.

Mazak has named Daniel Janka, who had been president and CEO of Fives Machining Systems, to be an executive vice president. Janka will begin in his new role Jan. 1.

Janka will be responsible for the company’s North American operations, which includes providing strategic leadership and performance management of short- and long-term goals. He has spent more than 30 years working in the machine tool business.

“As we ramp up for the next Industrial Revolution where big data drives unconventional business growth, Dan will play an important role in ensuring our company and customers are on the right track for increased growth and stability,” said Mazal president Brian Papke in a news release.

Mazak opened in 1974. In the last few years, the company has completed structural changes in its operation, which has included the complete digital integration of its Florence manufacturing home.
