ANDERSON – The Anderson Board of Public Works took under advisement four bids for extending water and sewer lines to the new NTN Driveshaft plant under construction.

Water and sewer lines will be extended to the intersection of 73rd Street and Layton Road. The work involves connecting a new 16-inch water main to the NTN Driveshaft site and hooking it into the existing 12-inch main.

The Indianapolis engineering firm of Butler, Fairman & Seufert Inc. estimated the cost at $3.2 million.

Greg Winkler, executive director of the Anderson Economic Development Department, said Tuesday that the work will be financed through tax increment financing.

Atlas Excavating of West Lafayette submitted the low bid of $3,320,670 with a deduction of $27,854 for an alternate bid.

Other bids received were: Merryman Excavating of Woodstock, Ill., a base bid of $3,467,342 with a deduction of $17,335 for the alternate bid; B.L. Brown Construction, Pendleton, a base bid of $3,658,392 and an alternate bid deduction of $56,963; and Brackney Inc., Brookville, a base bid of $3,795,938 and an alternate bid deduction of $25,199.

The board set April 12 as the date for bids on the construction of the underground portion to extend electrical service to the NTN plant.

Site work for the NTN Driveshaft plant started in December.

NTN Driveshaft is planning to construct a 325,000-square-foot building, creating 311 jobs by December 2018.

NTN plans to invest $84.5 million in Phase 1. A second phase includes a $60 million investment and the creation of 100 additional jobs, beginning in 2019.

In other business, the Board of Works approved a $150,000 consulting agreement between the city of Anderson and the Corporation for Economic Development (CED) for 2016.

Winkler said the $150,000 is included in the city’s food and beverage tax budget for consulting fees. The agreement is the same as was approved for 2015.

“We have an ongoing working relationship with the CED,” Winkler said.
