TIMKEN and JA Organize Youth Business Course
Over 20 volunteers from TIMKEN China organized a “Business Course” for more than 100 pupils in “Yuxin Elementary School for Children of Migrant Workers” in Shanghai on May 20. The volunteer teachers explained some business terms in the course, such as commodity, trade, market etc. and shared their working experiences with those kids.
With the aim to introduce JA to disadvantaged groups and set good examples for them, TIMKEN and Junior Achievement (JA), a non-profit organization, jointly organized this activity. Before holding this course, all TIMKEN volunteers have been trained by the JA. And all textbooks, related facilities are provided by JA.
All pupils in the school welcome this activity. “We like the teachers very much. They bring us lots of fresh knowledge about business. I’m very interested in it. And I wish that I could be someone like them in future.” said a pupil who is studying at the grade five in that school.
Junior Achievement, founded in 1919, is based in American. As the world largest and fast-growing non-profit educational organization, they organize free commerce and business courses for more than 7 million youth in over 100 countries cross the world each year.
JA had its Chinese presence in 1993, with the purpose to carry out and spread business educational programs featuring interactivity through partnership with business and educational sectors in China. Thus, youth in China can improve their quality in terms of personal character, innovation and ability of leadership. From 2005 to 2006, about 62,315 students of different age span have had JA’s free courses in China.
