Schaeffler Ansan Corporation gets presidential award

A local unit of German company Schaeffler was presented a Presidential Award at Coex on Monday. The award was to honor Schaeffler Ansan Corporation as an exemplary taxpayer.
Schaeffler develops and manufactures precision products for machines, equipment and vehicles, as well as in aviation and aerospace applications with its INA, LuK and FAG brands.
With about 78,000 employees worldwide, Schaeffler is one of the largest German and European industrial companies in family ownership.
Schaeffler Korea is comprised of HR and corporate services, finance and IT, industrial, automotive, research and development, quality management and a production sector. It has five plants in the production sector consisting of Changwon Plants 1, 2 and 3, the Jeonju Plant and Ansan Plant.
The Korea Times spoke with Schaeffler Korea CFO Johan Anderson about the award and the company’s involvement in the Korea economy.
Q: Where are you from?
A: I am originally from Sweden, but became an Australian citizen in 2008 after getting married and moving there in 2004.
Q: How long have you been in Korea?
A: I have been in Korea since 1 May 2013, so pretty much for 10 months now.
Q: How long have you worked for the Schaeffler?
A: I joined Schaeffler in May of last year, so I have only been with the company for 10 months as well. In my previous career I used to work for Mannesmann Rexroth for many years and one of my previous colleagues was on the executive board for Schaeffler in Germany and recommended me for this role. So that is how I got started with Schaeffler.
Q: Why was the company given an award?
A: The National Tax Service (NTS) of Korea has a management regulation for Exemplary Taxpayer (NTS instruction No. 2022) and its purpose is to promote a culture for taxpayers to file and pay their taxes timely and faithfully.
According to this regulation, an exemplary taxpayer is a company or person who faithfully fulfill tax obligations and promotes a mature tax culture in the society as to help contribute to nation’s finances.
The NTS selects exemplary taxpayer every year on Taxpayers Day (March 3) after its own internal regulations and recommendation.
One of our companies, Schaeffler Ansan Corporation, was selected this year and was given the Presidential Award today.
Q: How many employees in the company?
A: Schaeffler has two companies in Korea, Schaeffler Ansan Corporation and Schaeffler Korea Corporation, and employ approximately 2,000.
