Alstom to provide wind power turbines for Pontal project in Brazil
French manufacturing firm Alstom will supply almost 49 megawatts of wind turbines to an energy project in Brazil, according to a company statement. Alstom said it entered into two contracts with Brazilian power company Enerplan to provide 18 units of ECO 122 wind turbines. Each wind turbine has a power generation capacity of 2.7 MW each. The contract with Enerplan is worth about $32.86 million and Alstom will ship the wind turbines to the Pontal wind project in Viamão, located in Rio Grande do Sul State.
In addition to the contract for the turbines, Alstom will also operate and maintain the wind turbines for the Pontal wind farm for five years.
Yves Rannou, senior vice president of the wind business at Alstom, said the company will help sustain growth in the wind market of Brazil through the ECO 100 platform.
Alstom also obtained a contract with Votalia Energia do Brasil to supply electrical power systems for two wind projects in Brazil. The contract will result in the company providing systems for 201 MW worth of wind farms.
Alstom Grid Vice President Sergio Gomes said the company has been involved in more than 10 projects in the wind energy sector in Brazil in the past year.
